For the third time Frise-Künstlerhaus Hamburg is hosting the official Altonale artist-in-residence 2018. After Groningen in 2017 and Istanbul in 2016, both partners want to cooperate with the cultural center Lieu Unique from Nantes. We are welcoming an artist from France in Hamburg-Altona. The subject of Altonale 20 in 2018 is “borders” – as real frontlines or as an aesthetic metaphor.
Together with Patrick Gyger from Lieu Unique we invite the artist Franck Gérard from Nantes to live and work in FRISE for a period of a four weeks in May/June 2018. Franck Gérard brings an extended understanding of art as an interdisciplinary praxis, combined with an subversive visual humor.
Photographer Franck Gérard was born in Poitiers (France) in 1972 and graduated from the fine art school of Nantes.
In 2013, the artist was commissioned to create the series Manifester En l’Etat, by the Ministry of Culture – National center of visual arts – CNAP, in Marseille. In 2012, during the Nuit Blanche (all-nighter) in Paris, he gave a seven-hour “performed conference »
(7 pm- 2 am), En l’état, User les images, Hémicycle du Palais d’Iéna, CESE, and he participated in the group show Errances at melanie Rio gallery in Nantes.
His work has been exhibited at Lieu Unique in Nantes, Domaine de Kerguéhennec, Morbihan, at Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris, in the Centre Georges Pompidou-Metz, in the Centre National d’art et du Paysage de Vassivière en Limousin, in the MAC USP, São Paulo, and at the Rencontres Internationales de la photographie d’Arles en 2006 et 2010.
